Research on Wireless Communication Monitoring System for Urban Street Lights

June 24th at 12:00pm

Currently, most of the monitoring systems for urban street lights in China use a single communication method. Some choose wireless radio stations for private network communication, while others use wired solutions, CDPD technology, or GPRS/GSM for hall communication. Most of these communication technologies are mature in application and widely used in urban street light management systems, but various problems cannot be avoided during the application process. Therefore, it is necessary to fully utilize the advantages of various communication technologies and develop wireless communication methods that combine multiple communication technologies.

1、 The main component of the structural supervision level of the wireless communication monitoring system for urban street lights is the remote supervision system. Users can connect to the main monitoring system through a wide area network or local area network in order to timely obtain the current operation status of street lights and the monitoring system. According to the access routes, the supervision system can be divided into two types: local area network access and wide area network access. In general, the staff of the street light management office can check the operation status of the street lights through the local area network, but cannot send instructions to the monitoring center in the main control room. The higher-level administrator uses the wide area network to view real-time information of street lights or past information of the street light operation hall, and can send instructions to the monitoring center in the main control room.

The main components of the monitoring level are database management system, main control system, etc. The monitoring level is used to control and manage widely distributed RTU sites, and collect on-site information of street lights for each RTU site to form a distributed or centralized control system. The main control system of this control system is consistent with the existing main control system. Two industrial control systems are used for monitoring, and 100M Ethernet and database management system are used for information exchange. Unlike existing systems, the new database management system can provide remote access, and remote clients can use the network to view the latest or historical database information.

The main components of the on-site control level are RTU, switch device, and detection device. The on-site control level directly controls the street light equipment entering the hall, and timely detects the relevant parameters of the street light status entering the hall. The on-site control level usually constitutes a wide area distributed control of a city, and its RTU station not only supports wireless radio communication, but also supports various communication methods such as SMS communication and GPRS synchronous transmission.

2、 The communication interface of the street light monitoring system has two communication systems: on-site control level and monitoring level communication interface, also known as Interface I: monitoring system and monitoring level communication interface, also known as Interface IL Interface I not only supports SMS/GPRS communication provided by telecommunications operators, but also supports private network communication of wireless radio stations. Interface I also formulates protocols for on-site monitoring level and monitoring level information exchange.

Like Interface I, the interface also establishes protocols for exchanging information between supervisory and monitoring levels. The interface supports two communication methods: wide area network based on web services and local area network communication. This interface allows for the exchange of information in the lobby through an intranet or internet.

3、 The structure of wireless communication system in urban street light monitoring system mainly consists of three parts: communication processing module, cut-off or monitoring module, and communication module.

1. Communication processing module Communication processing module is a service provided by the communication module to replace the control or monitoring module in providing related communication services. During this process, the cut-off or monitoring module can achieve unobstructed communication with the monitoring terminal through any means of radio, SMS, or GPRS without the need for any modifications. And as long as the relationships between layers remain unchanged, even if there are changes in the communication module, it will not affect the disconnection or monitoring module.

The 2 cut-off or monitoring module cut-off or monitoring module can provide a convenient interface for hall operators to switch on and off the street lights in the hall. This module can interrupt the information sent by the RTU site and automatically generate various forms of alarm information, and handle the reports of faults properly. By utilizing local area networks and computer IP or TCP protocols, data access and exchange with databases on servers can be achieved. And it can complete local backup of critical data on the server to prevent monitoring system paralysis in case of network or server failures.

In the communication module, it can facilitate the organic combination of GPRS communication, radio communication, IP or TCP communication, and SMS communication. Enable its communication function: ⑴ The communication between GPRS and remote measurement and control terminals is achieved through the GPRS module; ⑵ The initial information of the wireless radio station is achieved through the RS232C serial port; ⑶ IP or TCP communication is achieved through the IP/TCP protocol; ⑵ The communication between SMS and remote measurement and control terminals is achieved through the SMS module.
